UB is currently transitioning from Jabber to Webex’s Cisco Call in Microsoft Teams for faculty and staff phone calls. With Cisco Call, you’ll be able to make calls right in Microsoft Teams, meaning you’ll have one app for chat, video, and calls. For the best functionality, faculty and staff will be encouraged to switch to Webex calling in Teams as soon as possible, and Jabber Chat will be retired in May 2026.
Beginning Fall 2025, calls you would normally make from a computer, tablet or smartphone using Jabber will be made using Cisco Call in Microsoft Teams.
Traditional desk phones at UB will still be available and aren’t going away anytime soon.
Phone services will be controlled using the Cisco Call app, which will be embedded into Microsoft Teams. To make this work, you also need to install the Cisco Webex app.
You will still dial the same way for local, long distance, and international calls. Just like Jabber, Teams will show your call history and your voicemails.
The UBIT Help Center is here to help with your technology needs at UB.
