If you aren’t already enrolled, you may receive a message starting July 8 when you log into University at Buffalo services asking to enroll in Duo two-step verification. Enroll before September 15 to protect your UBITName and password.

What is Duo?

UB uses Duo two-step verification to help protect your UBITName and password. Two-step verification is the standard for online account security. It pairs something you know (your UBITName and password) with something you have (like a smartphone or tablet) to provide secure access to your UB services.

Why did I get a message asking to enroll in Duo?

It’s all a part of a multi-step process for UB to comply with The SUNY 6900 Information Security policy, which establishes mandated guidelines for safeguarding and protecting sensitive information on campus. SUNY requires anyone with a UBmail account to enroll in Duo two-step verification.

Most of the UB campus community including students, faculty, and staff, are already enrolled in Duo-two step verification.

What if I’m not enrolled in Duo by September 15?

If you are not enrolled in Duo two-step verification by September 15, you will be required to enroll before you can continue to access important UB services like MyUB, HUBUB Zoom, and more.

How do I enroll?

UB Information Technology has a detailed step-by-step guide for enrolling in Duo two-step verification on our UBIT website. You’ll also find a quick 1-minute UB Tech Tip video tutorial to enroll in Duo with your smartphone.

UBIT recommends enrolling in Duo with your smartphone first by installing the free Duo Mobile app. The Duo Mobile app provides a quick and secure method to verify your login at the palm of your hands, anywhere you go.
