The UB Remote Desktop Gateway service is retiring November 1, 2025. Students, faculty, and staff can connect to UB VPN with their devices to access important UB services off campus.

Why is this happening?

The UB Remote Desktop gateway service was introduced in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce VPN server load. With improved UB VPN infrastructure and a return to on-campus work, the service is no longer needed.

What is UB VPN?

Students, faculty, and staff can access protected UB services from off-campus, including My Virtual Computing Lab, UB File Service (UBfs) and more with UB VPN (Virtual Private Network) through Cisco Secure Client, UB's recommended VPN client.

UB Information Technology also recommends that IT administrators examine their firewall rules to ensure that VPN traffic is allowed.
