University websites must be accessible to all users. Following these guidelines will help ensure that your content is accessible.

Official Policies

To ensure university communications and web content are accessible to all users and comply with University at Buffalo accessibility standards, individuals submitting materials are responsible for reviewing content for accessibility before submission.

The University at Buffalo requires online content and functionality to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards in accordance with the University's Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility Policy.

Materials that do not meet basic accessibility requirements will be returned to the submitter for revision prior to publication, distribution or posting to university websites. Accessibility is a shared responsibility, and addressing these requirements before submission helps ensure timely publication and an inclusive experience for all users.  

Accessible Web and Digital Content

  • Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Science’s website content or any UB-affiliated website, including the following file types:
    • PowerPoint presentations
    • PDFs
    • Word Documents
    • Excel Spreadsheets
  • Student Information Portal posts
  • Social Media posts
  • Newsletters and mass emails containing content that asks anyone to participate, sign up or register
  • Classroom materials in UB Learns, Box or any other area where several people have access

Submitter Acknowledgment

Before submitting materials, contributors should be able to confirm:

  • All materials have been reviewed for accessibility using the resources provided below
  • All materials have been run through the appropriate accessibility checker and remediated
  • All images include alt text or have been identified as decorative
  • All links are descriptive and meaningful
  • Documents have been structured using proper headings and accessible formatting
  • Videos include captions and audio content includes transcripts where applicable
