Research Description

My research focuses on studying the phenotypic and genotypic changes in Proteus mirabilis during Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) in long-term nursing home patients. We recently carried out a longitudinal study of urine colonization in catheterized nursing home residents where urine samples were collected and cultured to study colonization of common uropathogens like E.coli, Staphylococcus aureus, P.mirabilis, and others. I aim to elucidate the genetic changes and related phenotypes of P. mirabilis that aid in prolonged colonization and persistence in CAUTI patients.
