Schumer calls for cap on 'outrageous' cost of insulin for diabetes

Charles Schumer’s press conference announcing his legislation to cap the price of insulin at the Integrated Diabetes Center of UB, UBMD Pediatrics and the Oishei Children’s Hospital. Schumer pledged to call for a Senate vote to approve it in March. The bill would cap the out-of-pocket cost for insulin at $35 per month for all Americans. The story noted that Steve Lipshultz, MD, A. Conger Goodyear Professor of Pediatrics and chief of service at Oishei added that of 23 million people with diabetes, nearly 220,000 are children and adolescents. He said that UBMD physicians treat more than 1,000 young people throughout Western New York at the Integrated Pediatric Diabetes Center run by the Jacobs School, UBMD and Oishei Hospital.
