Professional Summary:

My research focuses the mechanisms of neuron-glia interaction in the pathophysiology of behavioral alterations and cognitive impairment in neuropsychiatric disorders. We are interested in the role of astrocytes and astrocyte bioenergetics in mediating avderse neurodevelopmental effects of environmental factors, including microbial pathogens, cannabis and stress. These mechanisms are studied using mouse genetics, molecular, cellular and systems approaches and in vivo imaging technologies.

Education and Training:

  • PhD, P.K. Anokhin Institute of Normal Physiology (1990)
  • MD, medicine and Physiology, I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Institute, Cum Laude (1986)

Employment:

  • Chair, Physiology and Biophysics, Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (2020-present)
