Medical Student Education

When you train with our faculty, we’ll augment your understanding of ophthalmology, providing you with essential knowledge that you’ll tap throughout your career.

The Department of Ophthalmology offers excellent clinical rotations for UB medical students and medical students visiting from other universities.

Rotations are available in general ophthalmology, specialized areas, research and ocular pathology.

Elective Courses

Our electives let you pursue clinical and research experiences tailored to your interests.

In addition to the formal ophthalmology research experiences available to MS3 and MS4 students, opportunities are available for MS1 and MS2 students to explore the field of ophthalmology.

Shadowing and research experiences for MS1 and MS2 from Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences

  • For students interested in shadowing in ophthalmology, students should directly contact 1 or 2 faculty members whom they may like to shadow in clinic. These experiences are for limited exploration of the field of ophthalmology and are scheduled individually with the faculty members.
  • The faculty in the Department of Ophthalmology have diverse research interests. Students interested in ophthalmology research should review faculty research profiles and directly contact those faculty members individually.
