How to Apply

All applicants to this program must be in their final year of medical school or beyond.

UB’s Department of Ophthalmology accepts the application form provided by the Ophthalmology Matching Program’s Central Application Service. All applicants must have an ophthalmology matching program number.

We are a joint ophthalmology program which means that your PGY-1 year will be required to be done at the University at Buffalo and we have partnered with the UB internal medicine department to provide this with us. Upon successfully matching with our program, you will be provided a PGY-1 spot with UB internal medicine. In addition to the usual duties of an intern, you will spend three full months with us doing ophthalmology exclusively.

The selection process is conducted by a committee composed of full-time and part-time faculty as well as the chief resident.

A virtual interview is required. After applications have been reviewed by the screening committee, individuals selected to be interviewed will be notified.

The department does not sponsor H1-B visas.

Your application from the CAS must be received in our office no later than October 1.

Interview dates this year will be November 17 and 18, 2023.

Last year we received a total of 507 applications; 30 applicants were interviewed for three spots.
