Remdesivir Study for COVID-19 Patients is Starting

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and the University at Buffalo are starting a promising clinical trial that could treat COVID-19 patients who are critically ill. Igor Puzanov, MD, professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, is leading the study. It is almost as if the patients’ bodies “are trying to cure the virus, but in the process of trying to cure the virus … they are injuring their lungs,” he explains. He says the drug administered in the clinical trial could stop the lung injury, reverse it and help patients breathe without ventilators.
