Ali A. El Solh, MD, professor of medicine, has edited and co-authored the first textbook on managing obese patients in critical care.

In 24 chapters, “Critical Care Management of the Obese Patient” covers all topics pertaining to the care of obese patients.
These include:

In addition to serving as the textbook’s editor, El Solh co-wrote a chapter about the effects of obesity on respiratory physiology.
Two other UB faculty members from the Department of Medicine are among the book’s 56 contributors.
Philippe E. Jaoude, MD, clinical assistant professor, co-authored a chapter concerning obesity’s impact on respiratory physiology.
