Michael Kuettel, MD, PhD, MBA, professor and chair of radiation oncology at UB and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been named a 2011 American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Fellow.

Kuettel is among 21 ASTRO members who will receive a fellow designation during the society’s annual meeting in October. He is the first Buffalo-area physician to be so named.

Nominees are selected based on their contributions to research, patient care, education, leadership and/or service.

Kuettel received his medical degree from Northwestern University, his doctoral degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and his master’s degree in business administration from Georgetown University.

He has previously received fellowships from the American College of Radiology, American College of Radiation Oncology and American College of Physician Executives.

Kuettel currently serves as chair of the board of directors for the American College of Radiation Oncology.

ASTRO is the largest radiation oncology society in the world, with more than 10,000 members who specialize in treating patients with radiation therapies.
