Make Your Business More Competitive - Use SPIR funds to tap UB`s team of technical experts

Date:
Friday, October 31, 2014
Time:
8:00 am - 9:00 am

The Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence (SPIR) grant makes it easier for organizations — both for-profit and non-profit — in New York State to gain access to technical assistance and competitive advantage from UB's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

For example, SPIR can open the door to receiving design expertise from John Hall, PhD, an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and his research group. Hall is a licensed professional engineer who worked in industry for 15 years prior to pursuing his doctorate. His efforts focus on optimizing product design through long-term simulation studies that improve performance and boost reliability and product life. As director of the Energy Systems Design Research Group, he specializes in wind energy and complex system development. Hall’s work also involves solid modeling, stress analyses, control design, and finite element analysis.

Organizations of 500 employees and less are eligible for SPIR funding. Capital expenses are not covered.

SPIR projects include:
• Research & Development Projects
• FEA, Material Design & Selection
• Layout & Workflow Analysis
• Accessing Shared Instrumentation Laboratories
• Employing Graduate and PhD Students

Respond by October 31, 2014 to be considered for the next round of funding.
