The NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences has just released its 2017- 2021 Strategic Plan , which addresses the so-called 'replication crisis' that is affecting not just behavioral and social sciences but also all other areas of biomedical research. I will summarize the proposed strategy for solving this problem and show how it might be applied , using an example from the field of medical imaging. I will then illustrate some of the obstacles to the widespread adoption of the strategy -- obstacles rooted in the culture of the NIH and of biomedical research, education and publishing institutions.
The seminar is held in the new CTRC Building, Room 5019 (side A or B depending on availability) at noon on the third Tuesday of every month. Either enter through the main entrance on Ellicott Street, or cross from BGMC on the first or second floor bridge and take the elevator to the 5th floor.
Light lunch to be served.
