Date:

Time:
3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Location:
CTRC Room 7002
Presenter:
Katia Noyes, PhD, MPH
Sponsor:
UB Clinical and Translational Science Institute

In recent decades, the approach to address many clinically important research questions has shifted to become multidisciplinary in nature. While many effective demonstrations of this approach exist, several barriers remain. Numerous teams have reported obstacles such as: uncertain institutional support, lack of understanding across disciplines and imprecise incentives for utilizing true multidisciplinary strategies, as well as others. In this presentation, Dr. Noyes will explore key concepts and approaches to team science based on available evidence and her personal experience in managing and working within multidisciplinary teams for the past 20 years. Dr. Noyes will give an overview of the ongoing Translational Teamwork Workshop Series, as well as lead the discussion exploring the common problems encountered with teamwork in science, guiding participants in identifying strategies aimed at improving our approach to multidisciplinary health care research and improving patient outcomes.
