John Adouk

Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences security guard John Adouk worked five days straight during the Blizzard of 2022 to ensure that anyone stranded inside the medical school building remained safe.

John Adouk, a Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences security guard from Wisdom Protective Services, tirelessly assured the safety of about 15 people stranded in the Jacobs School building during the Blizzard of 2022.

Adouk’s graciousness also extended to community members — he allowed a homeless man to spend a night in the secured atrium, got him dry clothes out of the building’s “Lost & Found” and then personally walked him to Buffalo General Medical Center for further assistance.

Adouk made sure people had food and drink and personally called anyone who headed out to make sure they reached their destination safely. He constantly shoveled snow at all four building entrances to keep them clear.

Knowing that security guards are essential workers, Adouk kept in touch with Wisdom, letting them know he was willing to cover all shifts to prevent any other guards from having to travel. Adouk stayed on site from Friday, Dec. 23 until the following Tuesday.
