As of March 2026 the UB Anatomical Gift Program operational hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. During these hours, calls to the answering service will be promptly returned by our programs funeral directors. Our funeral directors will preform the eligibility screening over the phone and help the caller determine next steps.
As of March 2026 the anatomical gift program no longer performs removals during the hours of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. If the next of kin still wishes to donate their loved one their next step will be to contact a funeral home of their choosing to perform the removal of their loved one from their place of passing, unless the passing occurred at a hospital.
The financial responsibility is that of the next of kin to the chosen funeral home for the removal services. The anatomical gift program will not under any circumstances reimburse or cover these charges. The funeral home should contact the anatomical gift program during the next open hours to determine eligibility through the screening process with a program funeral director. If determined eligible the funeral home and the anatomical gift program will coordinate the transfer of your loved one to the university. If determined ineligible for donation the anatomical gift program will inform both the funeral home and the next of kin via phone.
If the passing has taken place between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. you may report the passing to the answering service and our program funeral directors will return the call upon opening. The eligibility screening will then take place via phone and our funeral director will walk you through the next steps.
Based on the above criteria, UB's Anatomical Gift Program reserves the right to respectfully decline an anatomical gift donation at their discretion.
The UB Anatomical Gift Program may reach capacity limits, when reached the program will go into a closure. These closures are temporary however any donor passing during a time of closure will be ineligible and need to utilize their alternative funeral plan.
There are biannual closures to the program occurring in July and the end of December. These closure dates will be posted as early as possible on the main page of our website. Any donor passing during a time of closure will be ineligible and need to utilize their alternative funeral plan.
