After the acceptance of a donor into the UB Anatomical Gift Program they may be teaching or conducting research with us for up to three years. At the end of their journey each donor is cremated and returned to their designated next of kin or interred in the Skinnersville Cemetery.
Each donor is brought into our care by our program funeral directors and then they determine what the donor is best suited for. Some will teach the future doctors and dentists and nurse practitioners and other will be leading research on new surgical techniques and orthopedic implantations. At any given time there are many different classes and research projects taking place. Unfortunately, we do not give more detail or a report of any kind for the donors.
A donor may be with the program for up to three years. Upon completion of the program and cremation of the donor the next of kin will be notified via letter that the cremated remains are ready for their final disposition. They may choose to have the cremated remains returned home to them or interred in our on site cemetery plots.
Death certificates are completed electronically by our funeral directors. We will reach out to the next of kin to obtain information to file the death certificate. The death certificate will be filed with the municipal clerks office where the death occurred. To obtain copies of the death certificate the next of kin will need to go to the municipal clerk's office and request them. Identification and proof of relation may be required by some offices. There is a fee associated with obtaining certified copies and that fee will be paid by the family to the municipal clerk's office.
An obituary can be placed in any paper you wish. The paper will need verification of passing of your loved one. You can instruct the paper to contact our office for that verification at 716-829-2913 option 0. We do our best to preform verifications immediately but weekend or holiday verifications may be delayed. The anatomical gift program does not cover the cost of obituaries.
If you have any questions regarding a donor status or need to make changes to final disposition, please contact our office at 716-829-2913 option 0.
