John J. Bodkin, II, MD '76, a family physician with Highgate Medical Group and chair of the Western New York Scholarship Fund, is the recipient of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences’ inaugural Volunteer of the Year Award.
A past president of the Medical Alumni Association (MAA), Bodkin was instrumental in galvanizing efforts to establish the Western New York Scholarship Fund in collaboration with a network of community partners. Earlier this year, three UB medical students from Western New York were named the first recipients of the scholarship, the goal of which is to keep young physicians in our region for at least five years after they complete their medical education.
Bodkin has served UB Medical School in a wide range of capacities as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council, chair of the Buffalo Physician editorial board and as a member of the board of directors of the MAA.
Currently, he is a member of the Physicians Steering Committee of Great Lakes Health, chair of the physicians leadership board of the Optimum Physician Alliance and a member of the physician board of directors for Gates Vascular Institute.
