Structure

CHaMP is fully integrated into PECARN with Dr. Lerner serving as the Chair, of the PECARN Steering Committee.  Within PECARN  leads the EMSA Consortium which brings together EMS investigators from across PECARN.

CHAMP’s leadership is housed at the University at Buffalo. There are three CHaMP EMSAs, each has a Site Principal Investigator, an Academic Facilitator, and a Field Provider Advisory Committee. These individuals work together to develop new research projects, evaluate proposed research projects, implement and complete approved research projects, and disseminate findings. They also ensure that all research conducted within CHaMP is feasible and relevant to prehospital care. CHaMP has named one Research Affiliate, Dr. Matt Hansen, who develops new research projects and two Future Investigators who are working with CHaMP to develop their research skills with the goal of developing and implementing an EMS research project within PECARN. CHaMP is continually working to identify additional Future Investigators and Research Affiliates. These investigators ensure that we have sufficient research projects in development to maximize use of PECARN’s infrastructure and will allow us to develop the next generation of pediatric prehospital researchers. We have also identified an Emerging EMSA. This EMS agency is interested in engaging in research but has limited prior experience. Working with this agency gives CHaMP access to additional pediatric EMS encounters and allows us to develop a better understanding of how to assist EMS agencies in developing the ability to engage in research. Finally, we coordinate our work with both the PECARN Data Coordinating Center and the NEMSIS Technical Assistance Center to develop and manage research projects and to access EMS data.
