Our MD-PhD program in physiology prepares you for a career in original research, teaching and applied physiology.

Our program emphasizes both extensive training in molecular, cellular, and systems physiology and intensive training in current topics in physiological research.

The Jacobs School has empowered me to pursue my research on the molecular mechanisms underlying corneal dystrophy progression. The strong sense of community, the academic rigor, the unwavering support, all combined with the shared commitment to improve the human condition — I wouldn’t hesitate to do it all again.

Dr. Aras’s research on obesity and cardiac arrhythmia is of great interest to me, which is why I joined his lab. So far, working under his tutelage has given me the opportunity to study the molecular and physiological mechanisms connecting these critical risk factors contributing to sudden cardiac death.

Medical School Requirements:

MD-PhD students enter and complete the MD 1st and 2nd year curriculum, then enter and complete a departmental PhD program.

Re-entry into the Medical Curriculum

Following completion of Departmental PhD requirements, students re-enter the Medical School curriculum and complete the 3rd and 4th years of that Program.
