Medical Student Support Services

You can receive individual academic advising and tutoring information in the Office of Medical Education.

Our career advising program provides information about selecting your specialty and the AAMC Careers in Medicine Program. You also can take advantage of the Medical Alumni Association’s Mentoring Program and its Community Physician Lecture Series during your career planning. For one-on-one advising, you can make individual appointments with any of the deans in the Office of Medical Education.

Students are eligible for free individual, couples or group counseling through the University Counseling Center. Our Office of Medical Education can confidentially help you find an off-campus counselor for personal issues.

Two financial aid advisors who work exclusively with students in the health professions can help you with your individual financial aid needs. We offer debt management tools and campus seminars on a regular basis. The Office of Financial Aid offers general information about the cost of attendance, direct deposit and other financial matters.

Summer opportunities following the first year of medical school help you select your specialty and network. Research opportunities at any time during medical school can have a significant impact on career development. The Office of Medical Education regularly publishes information about these enriching opportunities.

The Office of Medical Education provides information about preparing for the Step 1 and Step 2 exams, including the corresponding deadlines. You must be certified by the Office of Medical Education to register for these exams.

The Office of Medical Education and the Student Wellness Committee host several activities throughout the year to promote balance and healthy lifestyle choices. The main event is the Spring Wellness Fair, where university offices and local businesses share information and resources related to exercise, nutrition, personal safety and more.
