Immunization and Health Insurance

You must complete and submit the University’s Health Background Form as soon as possible.

You cannot register for classes until you have submitted your proof of immunization.

New York state law requires that all students provide proof of immunity against measles, mumps and rubella. It also requires that all students receive information about meningococcal disease and make an informed decision about whether to receive immunization against the disease.

Health Insurance

Effective Fall 2024, health insurance coverage is mandatory for all international students but is no longer required for domestic students.

Master's Students

To protect master’s students as they work in our laboratories, certain academic departments require all students to carry health insurance due to exposure to risk in lab settings. If your program requires this, you will receive more information in the spring.

PhD Students

PhD students on assistantships have the option of enrolling in employer-subsidized UB health insurance plans. More information will be provided during the HR appointment process.
