Peter L. Elkin, MD, professor and chair of biomedical informatics, is leading a team that is using 3D printing technology to make reusable N-95-like respirators. The life-saving machine prototype is considered reusable because it would be able to be sanitized after each use. A prototype has already been sent to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for emergency approval. The project coordinator is Albert H. Titus, PhD, professor and chair of biomedical engineering.
