Kennedy Receives Naughton Award

Valerie Kennedy, executive administrator for Graduate Medical Education, has received the 2011 John P. Naughton Award for her work with residents.
The Naughton Award recognizes a staff member who makes the school a better place in which to learn, work, conduct research, provide patient care and teach.
Kennedy, who has worked in the school for 18 years, was one of four inaugural members of the Office of Graduate Medical Education.
Works With New Residents
In her current role, Kennedy serves as UB’s liaison with the National Resident Matching Program, coordinates orientation for all new residents, staffs the monthly Graduate Medical Education Committee meetings and tracks letters of agreement between residency programs and more than 300 hospital and ambulatory training sites in Buffalo.
“It is often the little things that create strong impressions and build the reputation of UB as a place where others want to be,” said Dean Michael E. Cain, MD, who presented the award. “Valerie Kennedy does these little things as well as the big things.”
Former Dean John Naughton, MD, established the award in 1999. He was dean from 1976 to 1996.
Kennedy received the award at the June 8 faculty staff recognition awards ceremony.
