UB medical students took a break from the books to prepare s’mores and make drink coasters at a Feb. 21 event sponsored by the Wellness Committee.
Gathering in the Lippschutz Room, students layered the fixings for s’mores into mason jars, adorning them with ribbon and gift tags. They used decoupage techniques to create personalized coasters out of ceramic tiles.
“This program promotes wellness, self-care and community mindedness by allowing some time for our classmates to relax and participate in stress reduction through art therapy,” said second-year student Ashley Beecher, who helped organize the event with Emlyn Capili, also in the class of 2014.
“It gives medical students a unique opportunity to socialize, relax and be creative by making crafts for themselves, friends and family.”
The medical student committee received a grant from UB’s Student Wellness Team to host the event.
