A member of the medical school’s admissions committee since 2011, Marshall chairs the school’s Faculty Council Committee on Admissions Policy. In her new role as director of admissions, she is committed to continuing the school’s emphasis on taking a holistic approach to screening and interviewing prospective students.

“Whether screening applicants to determine whether or not to offer an interview, or interviewing applicants, or engaging in the final discussion regarding whom to select for admission, the overall process studies each applicant as a unique individual, and endeavors both to understand the applicant’s passion and motivation for a career in medicine, and to appreciate the diversity each applicant brings,” says Marshall.

“As the director of admissions, my goal is to lead and support the admissions committee as it carries forward in this mission.”

Supervising Psychiatry Unit, Mentoring Trainees

Marshall, a physician with UBMD Psychiatry, serves as associate clinical director of psychiatry at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), where she oversees the hospital’s 136-bed psychiatry unit.

She teaches residents and fellows in clinical and didactic settings, and she mentors trainees and junior faculty pursuing their academic and research interests. Marshall is involved in the medical school’s Human Rights Initiative, collaborating with medical student scribes to conduct forensic interviews of victims of torture seeking asylum in the United States.

She also serves on ECMC’s ethics committee and teaches an ethics seminar to third-year medical students during their psychiatry clerkship.

Marshall has been honored for her teaching with a Louis A. and Ruth Siegel Award, the foremost means for University at Buffalo medical students to honor their professors, instructors and teaching assistants.

Additionally, she is a member of the Education Policy Committee of the UB Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program.

Completed Residency, Medical Degree, Bachelor’s at UB

Marshall, who is board certified in psychiatry and neurology, is an alumna of the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences’ medical education program, and she completed UB’s psychiatry residency.

She earned her bachelor’s degree at UB, magna cum laude.
