In 2020, UBIT and UB Libraries joined forces to offer students several hundred laptops to borrow each semester, ensuring access to laptops as UB went fully remote. Since then, times have changed, resulting in the retirement of UB’s laptop loan program effective December 2025.
According to the most recent UBIT Student IT Experience Surveys, nearly 90% of UB students now own their own laptop or device, and use of public computers around UB has greatly dropped. This data has led UBIT and UB Libraries to slowly phase out the laptop loan program.
Despite the retirement of the loaner program, UB is committed to supporting students who need access to technology. Here are some options:
