IMPORTANT: Residency Application Check In and Important Updates

Hello Class of 2027!

I'm not sure where the summer has gone, but as we hit the middle of August, we are reaching out with some important reminders and updates!

  1. RESIDENCY APPLICATIONS

    1. Everyone should be actively working on their applications at this time.

    2. You should have requested all of your Letters of Recommendation from faculty.

    3. If your specialty requires a Chair Letter, you should have already begun this process. (Contact information previously shared is also attached again here)

    4. Programs will begin reviewing applications on September 23rd at 9am

    5. Residency CAS:

      1. If you are applying in EM or OB/Gyn, you can begin submitting your application on September 2nd.

      2. The deadline to submit your application is September 17that 11:59pm!!  Ensure that it is submitted by this date.

      3. Programs cannot begin accessing applications until 9/23 at 9am.  Applications submitted after 9/17 may not be ready to review by programs on 9/23.

      4. You should submit your application by 9/17, no matter what. (Regardless of Step 2 score being back or letters of recommendation being in)

    6. ERAS:

      1. If you have not read the MyERAS 2027 Applicant User Guide, please do so.

      2. You can begin submitting applications on September 2nd.  *Once you certify your application, you cannot go back in to edit it.*

      3. Applications will be reviewed by programs beginningSeptember 23rdat 9am.

      4. You should submit your application by 9/23 at 9am, no matter what. (Regardless of Step 2 score being back or letters of recommendation being in)

  2. STEP 2:

    1. In order to obtain and release your USMLE transcript, this is the process:

      1. First,  pay for your USMLE transcript and authorize the release of your transcripts to ERAS or Residency CAS in FSMB’s USMLE Portal.  The fee is $70 and is only paid once per application cycle.

      2. Once released to either Residency CAS or ERAS, you will need to go into the platform to obtain your scores and assign them to the programs you are applying to.

      3. If you take Step 2 prior to 9/2, your score should be back in time to release to programs on 9/23.

      4. If your score is released either on 9/23 or after, it will not go to programs with your application:

        1. You will need to go back into FSMB to confirm that your new score is there and that it is a part of your transcript.

        2. You will then need to go into your residency application portal to resend the scores to the programs you've applied to.

        3. *You will not be charged another fee.*

        4. We would advise that you send a brief email to the programs you've applied to and let them know once your USMLE transcript has been updated and you've resent them through ERAS or Residency CAS.

  3. MSPEs & Med School Transcripts:

    1. Your noteworthy characteristics have been amazing to review.  They have either been accepted or sent back to you to review feedback.  Please review and make edits by Sunday 8/16 so that we may finalize these on Monday

    2. Your MSPE will be available to review electronically at the end of August/early September.  Please look out for an email from Shannon Okonczak with details about the review process.

    3. If you take Step 2 prior to 9/2, we should have the score back in enough time to include on your MSPE.

    4. ** All transcripts and MSPEs are uploaded on 9/22.  You can submit and certify your application prior to the transcripts and MSPEs being uploaded, so please do not wait for these to submit your application.

  4. AOA:

    1. We appreciate your patience as Dr. Justicia-Linde and her team have worked to make sure all available grades are in to allow for equitable and fair identification of the top 50% of the class.

    2. Those eligible to apply for AOA should receive an email by the end of this week with directions on what they need to submit.

    3. This will be reviewed and you will be notified of your acceptance into AOA before September 1st so that it can be included for those of you applying through an early match.

We realize there are a lot of moving parts and we remain here for you throughout this process.  As always, please reach out if there is anything we can help with!

All our best,

Drs. Bordonaro, Deis, Donhauser, and Milling
