Dear M4s,
Dr. Bradford and I are busy planning for the upcoming Reproductive portion of the Endo-Repro course which is coming up in July, and we need your assistance! We are hoping that many of you will be eager to participate as Problem Based Learning (PBL) facilitators. We only need a few more facilitators!
You may remember how valuable it was to have a helpful facilitator leading your own PBL sessions. We hope you will want to provide that same awesome experience for a group of M2s who would really benefit from your knowledge and expertise!
As in previous years, the class will be working through the case of Tanya Wilson and her reproductive journey over the years. We know you are all very familiar with her story! It describes the many different obstetric and gynecologic issues she experiences throughout her lifetime from infancy to older age. The groups will consist of 8 students who will work together in PBL and TBL sessions during the course. The group will meet in person with their facilitator (you!) during the 4 sessions below to work on prompts that are designed to help them think more deeply about the issues that Tanya faces and review the material they are learning in class.
Your role would be to help facilitate the discussion but not to give them the answers! As the facilitator, you would help to keep the students on track and provide guidance as to where to find answers or how to best approach the problem.
The dates are: (all sessions are 8-9 a.m.)
We think you would really enjoy the experience! Ideally, we would like to have facilitators who are available for all of the sessions so that you can establish a rapport with your group and really get to know them. If you can only make some of the sessions, let us know and we will try to make that work. If you are in the middle of a clinical rotation or elective during that time, we can reach out to your director, and they will probably let you take that time away to participate. They have been very accommodating in the past and know this is a valuable experience for our M4 students as well.
Please consider the opportunity! Some of you may really enjoy teaching, and others may really like the field of Ob/Gyn and want even more exposure to it! 🙂 It might be helpful to discuss your experience teaching your peers when you are on the upcoming residency interview circuit. Whatever your reason, we hope that you are interested! We have been very fortunate to have many M4s participate over the years, and we hope that tradition will continue.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jacobsen and Dr. Bradford
