Thank you to everyone who has submitted questions regarding the Medical Student Health Insurance Plan. Below are answers to several of the most common questions we've received.
- Do I need to enroll now, or can I wait until later in the year?
- Students who wish to enroll in the Medical Student Health Insurance Plan should do so during the current enrollment period. If you choose to waive coverage now, you may only enroll later if you experience a qualifying life event that results in the loss of your current health insurance coverage.
- What if I turn 26 and lose coverage under my parent's insurance?
- Yes. Aging off of your parent's health insurance plan is considered a qualifying life event. If you lose coverage after turning 26, you may enroll in the student health insurance plan at that time rather than enrolling now.
- What if I lose Marketplace or Essential Plan coverage?
- If you lose Marketplace or Essential Plan coverage, you may also become eligible to enroll in the student health insurance plan mid-year, provided the loss of coverage qualifies as a qualifying life event.
- Please note that Marketplace open enrollment alone is not a qualifying event for enrollment in the student health insurance plan.
- Does the plan include dental coverage?
- Currently, the student health insurance plan does not include dental coverage.
- Students without dental coverage may also consider utilizing services through the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine or arranging payment plans directly with a local dental provider.
- Does the plan include vision benefits?
- Yes. The plan includes:
- One routine eye examination each year
- Discounts on eyeglass frames and lenses through the Davis Vision network
- How do I submit a waiver?
