Internship Overview:
The WNY Children’s Environmental Health Center is offering a paid summer internship for two students interested in pediatric clinical practice and public health. This seven-week program (June–July 2026) will provide unique opportunities for hands-on experience in pediatric environmental health.
Program Highlights:
Interns will:
- Gain Clinical Exposure: Shadow general pediatricians in a clinical setting and attend pediatric Grand Rounds.
- Engage in Professional Development: Participate in webinars focused on pediatric environmental health and advocacy sessions with pediatric residents.
- Expand Knowledge: Review selected readings and video materials on pediatric environmental health topics.
- Collaborate with Experts: Join working groups and teach-ins as part of the NYS Children’s Environmental Health Network.
- Support Community Initiatives: Contribute to local activities with nonprofit organizations such as Buffalo Go Green, Buffalo Prenatal-Perinatal Network, Tool Library, EPIC, and Grassroots Gardens of WNY.
- Connect Virtually: Network with students from other NYS medical schools interested in pediatric environmental health.
- Support Center Operations: Assist with ongoing projects and their implementation, as opportunities allow.
Potential Student Activities:
Interns may also engage in projects such as:
- Updating and enhancing the "Rx for Prevention" resources to better connect patients with community services.
- Assisting with clinic-based initiatives like food pantry deliveries, surveys, and program evaluation.
- Maintaining indoor gardens used for community health education.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of screening tools and referral programs for environmental health concerns.
- Collaborating on household exposure reduction programs with community partners.
