We study the action of a membrane transporter, SLC4A11. We are particularly interested in its function in the corneal endothelium, where it maintains a tenuous osmotic balance between the aqueous humor and the cornea. When SLC4A11 is dysfunctional, corneal dystrophies like CHED and FECD arise. Our research is to understand the molecular mechanism between SLC4A11 and various disease states.
