Research Overview

Research Description

Cytochrome P450 enzymes are involved in many essential reactions in mammalian and bacterial cells, including drug metabolism and steroidogenesis. In particular, I am interested in the structural basis of functional conservation of vitamin D metabolizing cytochrome P450 enzymes. I study bacterial CYP107 from soil actinomycete Sebekia benihana to gain a better understanding of key active site residues that allow for the recognition of vitamin D substrates in different orientations.
