Buffalo General Medical Center

Located on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Buffalo General Medical Center offers a wide spectrum of clinical inpatient and outpatient treatment programs.

This 500-bed acute care center, located on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, is one of the region’s major hospitals.

Much of the patient base comes from the local urban area. The hospital also serves as a tertiary referral center, with a significant patient population drawn from Western New York’s eight counties.

Patients present with the entire range of disease states in internal medicine, general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery, with many critically ill cases.

Neurology Training

You will train in adult neurology on a designated neurology floor for hospital patients and you will participate in outpatient clinics.

You will gain experience managing patients with diverse neurological diseases, including multiple sclerosis, movement disorders and neuro-ophthalmologic conditions.

You also will provide neurological consultations in a state-of-the-art Emergency Department — the largest in Western New York. During your inpatient rotations, you will consult on cases at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

In addition, you will develop neuroimaging skills in our state-of-the-art facility and train in specialized electroencephalography (EEG) laboratories.

You will participate in several key didactic experiences here, including our weekly Neurology Grand Rounds, clinical and neuroimaging conferences and our monthly electrophysiology (EEG)/epilepsy and clinical pathological conferences.

You will have access to computer-equipped rooms designated for residents on the second and ninth floors.

You will have the opportunity to train and be a part of the care team in several specialized facilities, including:

Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Clinic

This multidisciplinary, patient-centered clinic supported by the MDA is part of a national network of neuromuscular specialty clinics at the forefront of research and clinical care. You will participate in this clinic during your electromyography and neuromuscular training.

Neuroimaging Center

A major site for our neuroimaging training, our modern facility features 1.5 and 3.0 T MRI systems.
