Roswell Park combines providing comprehensive cancer care with conducting vital research into cancer, with more than 120 beds and an extensive outpatient practice. Its integration of research, treatment and educational programs have met rigorous national standards and made fundamental contributions to reducing the burden of cancer. Patients visit it from all parts of Western New York and northern Pennsylvania.

The institute’s consistent success in these areas have earned it the National Cancer Institute’s designation of “comprehensive cancer center.” It is the only facility in Upstate New York to hold this honor and one of only 40 such centers in the United States.

Training

During your rotation, you will serve as a member of the RPCI gynecologic oncology team and participate in all aspects of patient care. Through this intensive training experience, you will learn the evaluation, diagnosis and management of gynecological malignancies.

You will further develop your surgical skills and become familiar with the chemotherapy and radiation therapies commonly used. You will learn how to manage medically complicated patients, including those requiring intensive care management.

You will also learn about the pyschosocial challenges faced by cancer survivors and the resources available to assist them in their recovery.
