Paresh Dandona, MD, PhD, has been named a State University of New York Distinguished Professor, the highest faculty rank in the SUNY system.

Dandona was one of 21 SUNY faculty appointed to the distinguished ranks earlier this month.

The distinguished professorship is conferred upon instructional faculty who have achieved national or international prominence and a distinguished reputation in their field.

Dedicated to Endocrine Disorder Research and Care

A UB Distinguished Professor of Medicine and chief of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Dandona is a world-renowned physician-scientist who has devoted his career to understanding and treating endocrine disorders, particularly diabetes and obesity.

He has consistently conducted translational research studies that have implications for improving human health. These include groundbreaking discoveries of the body’s inflammatory responses to obesity and the anti-inflammatory, cardio-protective effects of insulin.

Dandona serves as adjunct professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and director of the Diabetes-Endocrinology Center of Western New York.
