UB Researchers to Conduct Health Study on Tonawanda Coke Plant

James R. Olson, PhD, professor of pharmacology and toxicology, is a co-investigator on a UB study to analyze the impact of emissions from the Tonawanda Coke plant on the health of workers and area residents.

Another co-investigator, Matthew Bonner, PhD, MPH, associate professor of epidemiology and environmental health in the School of Public Health and Health Professions, was interviewed.

“This is a unique opportunity to increase our understanding of the role that industrial exposures may have on health within communities,” Bonner said.

Lina Mu, MD, PhD, associate professor of epidemiology and environmental health in the School of Public Health and Health Professions, is also a co-investigator. An air and soil study will be led by Joseph Gardella Jr., PhD, SUNY Distinguished Professor and John and Frances Larkin Professor of Chemistry.
