The NIH’s National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded the five-year grant to Lakshminrusimha, chief of the Division of Neonatology.

He will research the issue with colleagues from UB and Northwestern University.

Gathering Needed Data on Oxygen Delivery, Toxicity

During the study, Lakshminrusimha will gather detailed physiological data about oxygen supplementation, delivery and toxicity in infants with lung disease.

Recent reports have highlighted the lack of information in this area, underscoring the need to establish guidelines for delivering adequate oxygen without creating oxygen toxicity.

UB’s Daniel Swartz, PhD, assistant professor of pediatrics, is collaborating with Lakshminrusimha along with Northwestern’s Stephen Wedgwood, PhD, research associate professor of pediatrics, and Robin Steinhorn, MD, professor of pediatrics.
