Thirty-two individuals were inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society, and two students received the John Naughton award during a March 14 ceremony in Butler Auditorium.
Election to AOA is a lifelong honor that signifies a commitment to scholarship, leadership, professionalism and service to the art of healing.
The inductees are as follows:
Linda Pessar, MD, professor and director of medical student education in psychiatry, was also inducted.
Kevin Seals and Kevin Zeeck, two of the initiates, won the John Naughton Contemporary Medicine Award for creating a manual fostering the development and success of third-year medical students.
The award recognizes significant student contributions to the medical school or community.
Michael E. Cain, MD, vice president for health sciences and dean, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, offered opening remarks.
The distinguished lecturer was John E. Tomaszewski, MD, professor and chair of pathology and anatomical sciences, who gave a presentation titled “Seeing Your World.”
Gerald Sufrin, MD, president of AOA’s Buffalo Chapter, led the candidate induction; Frank T. Schimpfhauser, PhD, assistant dean for educational evaluation and research, presented the Naughton award.
Alice Crane, an initiate, gave a talk on AOA’s history.
