Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship

Mont Stern, MD.

“Our faculty have expertise in every aspect of cardiothoracic anesthesiology and are fully invested in your subspecialty training,” says interim program director Mont P. Stern, MD. “We consider you a valued member of our cardiac anesthesia team.”

The cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship program is a one-year multidisciplinary training program designed to allow the individual maximal exposure to the clinical, research, administrative and teaching opportunities in the field of cardiothoracic anesthesiology.

Faculty in this program are comprised of:

  • board-certified anesthesiologists with either fellowship training in cardiothoracic and/or pediatric anesthesia (or its clinical equivalent)
  • board-certified cardiologists and echocardiologists

All actively participate in the training of the cardiothoracic fellows.

This subspecialty is recognized by the American Board of Anesthesiologists and the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology.

The fellowship year consists of clinical experience in cardiothoracic anesthesiology with involvement in available clinical research projects.

Clinical training will include exposure to echocardiography, cardiology lab-based as well as intraoperative echo studies, with the goal of perioperative TEE certification through the National Board of Echocardiography.

The fellow will be an integral member of the cardiac anesthesia team involved in the varied aspects of adult and pediatric clinical care.

After this year, qualified residents receive certification through the ABA.
