Ultrasound Track

This track is a next level experience in the latest in ED clinical ultrasound, going above and beyond the robust curriculum required of all residents.

Scholarly Track Requirements

All residents will participate in a one hour monthly meeting during Grand Rounds time for their specific track which may include applicable reading with discussion, didactics or evaluation of their progress.

Goal

This scholarly track focuses on the area of Biomedical Informatics in Emergency Medicine which encompasses telemedicine/telehealth, simulation, electronic health records, electronic information access and communications. Participants in this track will gain knowledge in the clinical practice of telehealth, regional information systems and health information exchange, simulation, and quality improvement in emergency medicine using information systems.

General Requirements

  1. Complete the review of the required number of ultrasound studies (800) and course work required in order to prepare for the RDMS certification exam through the “4A1 track”. Sign up for taking the RDMS exam after completing the EM residency.
  2. Provide ultrasound instruction for EM1 rotation/other local sites and either:
    • regional meetings (e.g. NY ACEP, Rochester Course)
    • national meetings
    • local program for medical students
  3. Do 3rd year elective in ultrasound including additional training with Cardiology, Radiology and Vascular Lab
  4. Complete one of the following:
    • Help write a chapter for an ultrasound text
    • Complete a manuscript of an ultrasound study for submission to a peer reviewed journal
    • Complete ARDMS Exam (physics and abdomen)
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of ultrasound machine options, purchasing issues and maintenance for state of the art machines at completion of residency
