Training

As a fellow in our program, you will complete at least one rotation in our adult epilepsy clinic with one or both of our adult epileptologists. Training at UBMD Neurology enables you to see patients either for initial consultation or continuity care.

This training site will develop your expertise in the long-term care of adult epilepsy patients, and it will help you understand patients’ needs as they transition from the care of pediatric epileptologists to adult epileptologists.

This is an ideal rotation site to gain experience with:

  • epilepsy patients responding well to anti-epileptic drugs
  • patients with medically refractory epilepsy not desiring surgical work-ups
  • patients with medically refractory epilepsy in the process of having pre-surgical work-ups
  • post-epilepsy surgery patients

Since most patients with responsive neurostimulation (RNS) are followed at the UBMD Neurology clinic, you will have opportunities to deepen your knowledge of how the RNS system monitors brain waves at the seizure focus and how it detects unusual electrical activity that can lead to a seizure.

This training site is where we’ll make sure you’re familiar with programing various devices to treat epilepsy, including those for vagus nerve stimulation responsive nerve stimulation.

Complementary Locations

To provide you with a well-rounded training experience, we’ll ask you to see patients at UBMD Neurology clinics in downtown Buffalo and Williamsville, N.Y.
