Neuromuscular Disease Conference

Through discussions and hands-on experiences, you’ll refine your ability to use EMG and nerve conduction studies to diagnose disease.

Our weekly meetings will help you gain an increasingly sophisticated understanding of the peripheral and autonomic nervous system and upper- and lower-limb gross anatomy.

The topics we cover include:

  • neurophysiology of muscle contraction
  • neuromuscular transmission
  • central nervous system control of peripheral processes
  • immunology of inflammatory muscle
  • nerve disorders

In this conference series you will:

  • learn the physiology of nerve conduction, muscle contraction, spontaneous activities, neuromuscular transmission and autonomic system
  • learn basic physics and electronics related to membrane properties, electrical safety and amplification
  • review videos to sharpen quick recognition of electromyogram and nerve conduction studies

This cross-disciplinary conference includes a one-of-a-kind, hands-on experience in our medical school’s Gross Anatomy Lab. There, you’ll directly visualize human anatomy to see variations in the peripheral nervous system, origins and insertions of muscle, and the location of nerves in relation to the surface of the skin.

Our conference combines clinical neurology, neuropathology and genetics. Departmental faculty, along with guest lecturers from other departments and institutions, present.
