Programs of Study

Our programs are in the medical school, giving you unique access to school resources, from cutting-edge biomedical research labs to dedicated faculty who actively engage in medicine through clinical practice and translational research.

Our programs offer unparalleled access to biomedical research opportunities and an inside track to the professional skills and knowledge you need to succeed in your career.

Our clinical lab sciences programs take advantage of their position within the medical school to ensure you get on-the-job training through internships and rotations in the school’s affiliated hospitals and clinics. In our classes, you will train on state-of-the-art lab equipment and learn clinical and research techniques from professionals actively working in your field.

Program Types

Majors

Biochemistry

As a student in biochemistry, you will study the chemical principles that underlie biological processes.

Bioinformatics and Computational Biology – Biomedical Informatics

The Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) program is an interdisciplinary program that provides students with training in the biological sciences, mathematics, and computing needed to elucidate the molecular entities that govern biological organization at all levels, from molecules to ecosystems.

Biomedical Sciences

The BS in biomedical sciences allows you to increase the breadth of your undergraduate experience, combining courses from various departments within the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in preparation for professional or graduate studies.

Biotechnology

The biotechnology program prepares you for advanced graduate study or a career in the biotechnology industry through intensive, hands-on laboratory-based coursework and training.

Medical Laboratory Science

This interdisciplinary program integrates applied biology and chemistry to diagnose, treat and prevent disease. Our curriculum prepares you for national and New York state licensing exams in medical laboratory science, also known as clinical laboratory science.

Neuroscience

Our interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree program gives you an in-depth clinical and translational understanding of the brain. In this program, you will examine the function and dysfunction of the brain through the utilization of a molecules-to-behavior approach.

Nuclear Medicine Technology

Our program provides a solid foundation in all nuclear medicine procedures and prepares you for a position as a staff technologist.

Pharmacology and Toxicology

Our pharmacology and toxicology program is ideal for students interested in gaining a comprehensive understanding of the actions of drugs and toxic agents on living cells and tissues.

Combined BS/MS

Neuroscience BS/MS

This interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree program gives you an in-depth clinical and translational understanding of the brain. Our combined degree in neuroscience will leave you well-equipped to enter the job market in which neuroscience has become an increasingly driving force.

Pharmacology BS/MS

The combined degree offers you the strong scientific background and laboratory research training needed to qualify for professional positions in the pharmaceutical industry, academia and secondary education teaching.

Biomedical Sciences BS/PharmD

The BS/PharmD program combines three years of undergraduate study in biomedical sciences and four years of graduate work in pharmacy.

Minors

Neuroscience Minor

This minor offers you a comprehensive background of modern medical neuroscience. Our curriculum is focused on how the central nervous system is organized, the pathophysiology of disease and treatment of disease states.

Pharmacology Minor

The minor in pharmacology and toxicology is available to science and non-science majors interested in the effects of drugs and toxic agents on living cells and tissues.

Non-Degree and Special Programs

Pre-Health

At UB, students can take all the courses required for medical admission and can further enhance their application by selecting courses from a number of natural science departments.

Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE)

This 10-week program provides outstanding undergraduate students an opportunity to participate in state-of-the-art cellular, molecular, and biomedical research.

CLIMB UP for Summer Research

This 8-10 week program gives undergraduate students a chance to perform mentored research in the biosciences and explore graduate careers.
