The award, named in honor of the late Curtis G. Hames Sr., MD, is presented annually to a person whose career accomplishments have significantly advanced family medicine research and scholarship in academic medicine.

The selection committee for the award is composed of representatives from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM), the North American Primary Care Research Group and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Their decision is based on the significance of nominees’ continuous family medicine contributions “by way of discovery, research, teaching and mentorship.”

Rosenthal, who was selected to receive the award from a national slate of nominees, will be honored during the 2011 STFM Annual Spring Conference in New Orleans on April 29.

He has been asked to deliver a presentation at the conference and will speak on the value of research in the primary care setting and the potential for findings to impact practice.
