Glenna C. Bett, PhD, vice chair for research in the Department of Gynecology-Obstetrics, has been appointed president of the advisory board for the Buffalo Niagara division of the American Heart Association (AHA).

Her two-year term continues through August 2013.

An expert in cardiac electrophysiology, Bett also is an AHA fellow.

Researching Gender Differences in EKG Results

One of Bett’s current studies seeks to explain why there are differences in EKG recordings between men and women.

“Very little is known about the molecular basis of the differing electrical profiles in men and women,” she says. “It’s not surprising that we do not understand why women are more susceptible to pharmaceutical- and mutation-induced arrhythmias.”
