Quigg Installed as Morris Professor and Chief of Nephrology

Richard J. Quigg Jr., MD, was installed as the inaugural Arthur M. Morris Professor and Chief of the Division of Nephrology during a March 7 ceremony.
A leading expert on glomerular diseases, Quigg came to UB in January from the University of Chicago, where he served as chief of the Section of Nephrology and director of its Functional Genomics Facility.
His installation was presided over by UB President Satish K. Tripathi and Michael E. Cain, MD, vice president for health sciences and dean, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Lecture on Experimental Observations
Following his installation, Quigg, who is an authority on pathogenic mechanisms of kidney disease as well as the complement system, delivered a lecture titled “Insights Into How the Immune System Shapes the Outcome of Kidney Disease.”
He highlighted physiological and pathophysiological facts about the kidney and discussed corresponding experimental models.
Arthur M. Morris, MD ’65
Arthur M. Morris, MD, is president of Nephrology Associates of Northern Illinois and Indiana. The organization, now affiliated with more than 50 hospitals, was established in 1973 when four physicians began providing care to the community via a rented dialysis machine in a church basement.
Morris, a fellow of the American College of Physicians, received his bachelor's degree at Columbia University and in 1965 graduated with a medical degree from UB.
He completed a residency at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore and a nephrology fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.
