13 New Faculty Join Medical School

Thirteen faculty members with a variety of research and clinical experience — representing six medical school departments — have joined the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences over the past several months.

Chelsie E. Armbruster, PhD.

Chelsie E. Armbruster, PhD

Chelsie E. Armbruster, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, has focused research on investigating microbe-microbe interactions, host-microbe interactions and patient characteristics that influence disease severity.

She earned her doctoral degree in microbiology and immunology from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She was previously a postdoctoral fellow and research investigator at the University of Michigan Medical School.

Jacob Chambers, PhD.

Jacob Chambers, PhD

Jacob Chambers, PhD, lecturer in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, has focused research on the relationship between bacterial biofilms and tolerance to antimicrobial agents.

He earned his doctoral degree in molecular biology, biochemistry and microbiology from Southern Illinois University. He was previously a postdoctoral fellow and research scientist at Binghamton University.

Anh H. Le, PhD.

Anh H. Le, PhD

Anh H. Le, PhD, research assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology, specializes in radiological physics. She earned her doctoral degree from the University of Southern California. She is a medical physicist at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Anjeet K. Saini, MD.

Anjeet K. Saini, MD

Anjeet K. Saini, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, specializes in geriatric medicine and internal medicine. She earned her medical degree from the Medical University of the Americas.

Saini completed a residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt and completed a fellowship in geriatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Andrea C. Wong, MD, MPH.

Andrea C. Wong, MD, MPH, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Neurosurgery, specializes in interventional pain management. She has been involved in lab-based research studying the effect of injury and endogenous opioid circulation leading to the development of pain states, as well as development of opioid-induced hyperalgesia.

Wong earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. She completed her residency training in anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and her fellowship training in pain medicine at University Hospitals Case Medical Center.

Xiaoyan Wu, MD, PhD.

Xiaoyan Wu, MD, PhD

Xiaoyan Wu, MD, PhD, clinical associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics, specializes in pediatric nephrology. She earned her medical degree from Tianjin Medical University and her doctoral degree in physiology from the University of Toronto.

Wu completed a residency in pediatrics at Richmond University Medical Center and completed a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at Baylor College of Medicine.

Eric D. Hansen, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, is a palliative care physician at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he cares for patients with advanced cancer.

Hansen earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine, did his residency training in internal medicine at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University and completed his fellowship training in palliative care at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Rebecca L. Schaeffer, MD, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry, specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry. Schaeffer earned her medical degree from the Jacobs School. She also completed her residency in psychiatry and her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at UB.

Vernon C. Clifton, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Medicine.

Aasha Harish, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Medicine.

David L. Stein, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Medicine.

Mehak Swami, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Medicine.

Edwin H. Yau, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Medicine.
