Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Clinical Studies Unit

G. Iyer Parameswaran in the COPD unit.

G. Iyer Parameswaran, MD, studies bacterial infections in patients with COPD.

Our clinical studies unit has been conducting research on COPD, the fourth leading cause of death in the United States, for longer than any other in the country.

The long-term goal of our research is to understand better the pathophysiology of this common and serious illness which will, in turn, enable prevention or improved treatment.

Patients followed at this facility receive state-of-the-art care from internationally recognized physicians. By collecting specimens from patients over time and following patients' progress, we study the natural history of COPD and identify the mechanisms that lead to clinical deterioration.

Our clinical studies unit also determines which patients can be enrolled in clinical studies aimed at identifying new ways to treat COPD.
